Regular price $500.00

Cut in deep brown velvet with a broad shawl collar, fabric-covered buttons and narrow welt pockets, the waistcoat carries the restrained formality of mid-nineteenth-century European tailoring. The velvet pile has developed a rich, irregular watered / marbled appearance, shifting from dark umber to bronze as the light moves across the surface, contrasted by a plain cotton back and interior construction.

The garment survives in strong, wearable antique condition. The sides have been historically restitched, with extensive natural abrasion and loss to the velvet pile concentrated around the pockets, seams and edges — traces of use that have become part of the garment’s surface rather than diminishing its presence.

A remarkably atmospheric Victorian piece, where formal tailoring and more than a century and a half of wear have settled into the same object.

Please do not expect the garment to be new or in perfect condition; there may be minor defects (used clothing).
