Late Victorian / Early Edwardian Velvet Smoking Jacket (c.1890–1910)

An authentic velvet smoking jacket from the late Victorian to early Edwardian period. Crafted from deep black velvet with a soft, rich nap that catches light subtly, giving the fabric a refined, understated depth. The edges are neatly finished with piped trim, adding structure and a sharp, graphic outline to the silhouette.

The construction feels light and relaxed, true to its original purpose as an at-home lounge garment—meant for private interiors, quiet evenings, and informal hosting.

The interior features a striped cotton lining, consistent with garments of this era, now gently aged but still holding its historical character.

Condition:
Missing the main front button as well as several buttons on the sleeves. Noticeable wear to the velvet, especially along the seams. Small holes are present along the back collar seam. The lining is slightly fragile due to age.

Despite these flaws, the jacket retains a strong archival presence and an unmistakable atmosphere of late 19th to early 20th century elegance.

Worn, not restored.
Surface carries time rather than correction.
