1960s Levi's 501ZXX 'Big E' Selvedge Jeans Pants

Dating to approximately 1964–1966, these original Levi’s 501ZXX survive from one of the final and increasingly rare chapters of the XX era. Produced during a short transitional period, they retain the Big E Red Tab and old American selvedge construction, while the earlier hidden back-pocket rivets had already been replaced by reinforced stitching.

The dense indigo denim is finished with a clean selvedge edge without the later red line, copper pocket rivets, a brass Talon 42 zipper and hardware carrying the early factory stamp “J.” Every detail belongs to an era when Levi’s was still built as uncompromising American workwear.

Remarkably preserved in excellent vintage condition, the denim shows only restrained natural fading and surface abrasion. A small non-through hole remains at the back between the legs—an honest trace of wear on a scarce pair approaching sixty years of age.
