1911 Dated German Bespoke Fur Lined Overcoat

Regular price $1.00

This coat dates to 1911, (Köln), Germany, placing it in the final years of the German Empire under Kaiser Wilhelm II. At that time, Cologne was one of the most important commercial and industrial centers along the Rhine, known for its thriving textile and fur craftsmanship.

Garments of this kind were typically custom-made by local ateliers for affluent civilians — merchants, industrialists, or professionals — who required both elegance and protection from harsh European winters. The generous fur lining, strong shoulders, and imposing silhouette reflect the refined tailoring traditions of the Edwardian era (1901–1914) — a period defined by structure, dignity, and meticulous craftsmanship in menswear.

It was sewn during the height of the Edwardian period and likely completed and delivered to its original owner shortly after, just on the eve of a rapidly changing Europe. Such coats embody the final expression of pre – World War I elegance, when garments were created to last decades, not seasons.

Fully lined with genuine early 20th century fur — while one cannot undo the realities of the past, preserving and wearing this coat today is a way of honoring the craftsmanship and ensuring that such materials and history are not lost or wasted.

The coat is in good condition for its age—there are holes in one pocket; there is a stitched hole near the second pocket; the lining comes apart easily at the seams in some places—it needs to be carefully sewn back on.

Please do not expect the garment to be new or in perfect condition; there may be minor defects (used clothing).
